Italian mega-brand Missoni might have been born in Varese, Italy, but for one day only it was Tokyo that Angela Missoni called home as she brought her Spring 2014 collection to Japan for the opening of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo. Now the decision to have the brand kick off Tokyo's biggest fashion week ever was a controversial one, with some critics feeling a Japanese brand would have been a more appropriate choice for opening day. But this didn't dampen the spirits of the fashion fans, brand loyalists, celebrities, and bloggers who poured into Hikarie Hall on Monday to see the back to back Missoni shows; and their energy was explosive and intoxicating and quickly dispelled any doubts as to whether or not have a "BIG BRAND" open the shows was a good idea. The show began with a capsule-sized selection of men's wear pieces worn by models who took several laps around the stage before taking seats in the audience to watch as the women's wear pieces came down the runway. This seemed to startle and amuse the audience and set a fun tone to the gorgeous show.
