Suburban angst, and the cliques that form in high schools, specifically "preps", "jocks" and "skaters", made for a high energy inspiration at the Richard Chai Spring 2016 collection.

Always the master of taking an inspiration and making it thoroughly his own, Chai wove these "characters" throughout the show in "...ecru, dark green, mushroom, and grey plaids mixed with touches of yellow, pale pink and blue..." Further building on the theme Chai also used "...Bold custom graphic prints that took notes from classic album covers adorned on t-shirts, sleeveless cut-off button ups and collarless henley shirts, adding an element of rebellion to the muted color selection." The overall effect was very American cinematic; think John Hughes's cooler indie cousin.
