Long weekend means big sales around the bay

Often thought of as the summer-season kick-off Memorial Day Weekend is packed with sales events to get you in the warm weather mood including:

Thursday:

Oakland's Fit Clothing starts the long holiday weekend off with their Happy Hour, this week pants are on the menu with 20% off styles throughout the boutique.

Also on Thursday, not yet done with their pre-move sale, SF indie boutique Shotwell is continuing the markdowns with 70% off all housewares, furniture, and plants (who knew shotwell sold plants?) through Monday.

Since its opening, New People in San Francisco's Japan Town has been a local favorite spot for everything from Gothic Lolita fashion, to seriously kawaii home decor.  With several sales throughout the floors this weekend, including a 25% off all eco handbags at SouSou now is the time to check out this only-in San Francisco shopping mecca.  Also, don't forget to check out the screening of Kamaikaze girls on Sunday at Viz Cinema.

Gucci A/W 2010 looks on sale starting monday/Image: Getty EuropeStarting Monday:  For the Italian designer minded, word has it that the Gucci Flagship store on Stockton Street in San Francisco's Union Square will have mark downs of up to 40% on all Fall and Winter merchandise starting May 30th and continuing throughout the month of June.  

On going: A little bird on the inside Nordstrom corp, told SW shop spies that the south of Market Nordstrom Rack location is now recieving deliveries three times a week, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and as we are in the thick of a transitional period between seasons a larger portion of the pieces have not spent more than a few days on the floor. What does this mean to you? Better brands (we spotted Burberry Prorsum, L.A.M.B. and Alexander McQueen Fall/Winter 2010 looks at the locale just last week), and less wear and tear on the pieces at the same great rack prices.  Get there early on delivery days, bring a bottle of water, and prepare yourself to wait in line as the store can get crazy when the good stuff hits the floor.
