Iconic Swiss label Akris is giving New York Fashion Week a major high fashion boost this coming season, as Creative Director of the label Albert Kriemler has announced he will show the Spring 2017 collection in New York. According to the official press release, " 'The Akris défilé at New York Fashion Week is a tribute to the city and the country which helped us to become who we are now' , Albert Kriemler said, 'and it is a homage to the Couture Council and The Museum at FIT and its curatorial and educational vision.' The Couture Council Luncheon, traditionally heralding the beginning of Fall Fashion Week in New York, will take place on September 7, 2016 at David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center. Two days later, on Friday, September 9, Albert Kriemler will show his Akris Spring/Summer 2017 collection."
World renown for both his innovation and creative contributions to fashion such as the "rarefied and innovative double face; pushing the boundaries of St Gallen guipure embroidery and pioneering digital photo printing" Kriemler bringing Akris to New York marks another major success for organizers of the New York events who appear to be working on attracting global powerhouse designers such as Riccardo Tisci who brought Givenchy to NYFW in September 2015.
But New York fans don't get too excited just yet, Kriemler and Akris will not be permanent fixtures on the New York Fashion Calendar, as according to the official press release, the designer "emphasizes that he remains fully committed to the Chambre Syndicale and Paris, where he has shown his collections since 2004 and Akris is a member of the Fédération Française de la Couture, du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode since 1996." 'The departure in our défilé for this season offers a unique opportunity to rethink seasonality and the rhythm of collections and défilés in an environment where everybody is discussing new concepts.' Kriemler said."
