In San Francisco the local fashion party, be it a mini-runway show, a photography event, or an in-store event, has seen a growing popularity over the past year. With this popularity comes increased exposure, and media coverage for the local emerging designers. And while this coverage is an important aspect of breaking into the fashion industry, without writing orders, and actually getting your collection into boutiques and department stores emerging designers have little hope of getting their brand off the ground.
Keeping this business reality in mind the San Francisco Fashion and Merchant Alliance has put an emphasis on getting local buyers to attend their event, Pret-a- Porter this Saturday at The Press Club in Yerba Buena Gardens. Organizer of the event, and director of the San Francisco Merchant and Fashion Alliance, Owen Geronimo told SW,
"Most [local]fashion shows I've seen are not results oriented. The ultimate goal in any SFFAMA runway event, is to help the designers sell their collection, and for the designers to earn recognition for their work. In addition, the prospect of meeting with buyers is a crucial motivating factor for the designers, as potential sales are a big incentive. SFFAMA really wants to make a difference by coming up with practical solutions to help and guide the designers to become better entrepreneurs."
Local designers participating in Pret a Porter include : Anya Tatarenko, Magdalena Trever, Mikelsen, Malin Namita Couture, Rock Chiq, Tosca Soraya, West Coast Leather and Work Clothes.
Doors at 8pm, Runway show at 10. General admission tickets for the event are still available for $10 via the official event website.
