New York: Backstage at Mara Hoffman Fall 2015

"Intergalactic Warrior Tresses" and sun kissed beauty were the call of the day backstage at the Mara Hoffman Fall 2015 show where teams from TIGI Catwalk, Maybelline and Zoya Nails, were working feverishly to make the look come together flawlessly .

Here's what they did, first up the "Intergalactic Warrior Tresses", an elaborate braided look which TIGI U.S. Creative Director Thomas Osborn (pictured below, top row far right column)  told me back stage took Mara Hoffman and the team many hours of creative collaboration to design.

Led by Osborn the Tigi team began by prepping the hair with CATWALK® by TIGI® Session Series Salt Spray and created a clean, center part from hairline to nape, securing hair in two low ponytails (for the time being). They next used a paddle brush and a bit of CATWALK® by TIGI® Session Series Work It Hairspray to smooth hair and set the severity of the part. Using pins, next they secured one extra-long, pre-made braid (using extensions) just behind the ear and cross over the crown. They then repeated with a second pre-made braid in the opposite direction, crossing over the other braid to make an “X” on top of the head. Next, they removed elastics from pigtails and begin braiding the ends of the braids into each pony, using a 3-strand technique and incorporating wefts of hair into the braid as you go to add length. Secure each side with an elastic, leaving a significant amount of unbraided hair below the elastic. Finally they secured the two braids together, taking care to hide the pins and create the illusion of intertwined braids, and using fingers to pull on pieces of the braid, they created an undone texture and set the look with CATWALK® by TIGI® Session Series Work It Hairspray.

As that was going on, on the other side of the room teams from Maybelline and Zoya were getting down to work too. The Maybelline team, led by key artist Lottie, created a gilded eyelid with a rosy cheek that glowed with sun-kissed glam while the Zoya team hand painted the nails in a quad-color abstract, almost ombre print, that echoed the colors of the collection.

Here are some of my favorite photos of the process.
