New York: Backstage at Karen Walker Fall 2013

To create the perfect beauty look to compliment Karen Walker's Siouxsie Sioux inspired Fall 2013 collection, New Rose, the beauty teams of MACBumble and Bumble and OPI had to think outside the box  in regards to color and texture. Not wanting to be overly campy, or too literal the teams came up with a modernization of the classic punk look. Neon orange and green MAC Chromacakes were used to create an updated "siouxsie eye", while brows were bleached to give a brighter, bolder appearance that was a play on the iconic musicians signature dark eyed look. Key Make-Up Artist Benjamin Puckey told Style Wylde backstage:

We wanted to do a modern variation of the Siouxsie look, so instead of dark eyeliner we chose a bright bold color, and instead of a heavy black brow we are doing a lightened bold brow look."

To offset the electric eyes, Puckey kept skin and lips softly muted using MAC Face and Body Foundation and MAC Lip Erase. Hair was kept roughed-up in lose waves, that had the same rebellious vibe of Siouxsie, without all the outdated 80's stiffness. To do this the team from Bumble and Bumble, led by stylist Laurent Philppon, applied a combination of BB Surf Spray and BB Prep to give hair grip. Hair was then given added texture either by braiding and blowing dry with a diffuser (as pictured right) or by loosely curling and hand-ruffling to create movement but no tight curls. For nails, the experts at OPI wanted a cool punk look with a bold update. To get just the right effect they applied OPI nail lacquer in Black Onyx, topped with a brand new product (scheduled to hit the shelves in April 2013) called OPI Matte Top Coat, which seamlessly takes away the glossy finish leaving and ultra modern matte hue below.

The result: A fresh take on a punk rock classic that was the perfect compliment to the collection.
